I can hardly contain myself as I write this tonight. This summer my daughter Chelsey and I are going to Thailand. Now, this is not a bikini holiday we are going on. First of all, bikini’s and I have never been friends {that is besides the point}. We will be going to serve our hearts out for the precious ones living at the Home of the Open Heart in Chiang Rai, Northern Thailand.
“Our mission is to assist and enable destitute HIV affected women and children by providing education, orphan care, respite and hospice care, both in our home and in our community.” Home of the Open Heart“The founders of Home of the Open Heart are friends of our family from the days we served in Australia, when I was in my preschool years. My two sisters and I played with their children. Now they all live and work in Thailand as long term missionaries. While we have stayed in touch through Facebook and the occasional email, Mom and I are pretty excited at the prospect of actually going there and pouring our lives into these precious young mothers and their children.” Chelsey Nielsen

I have been praying and waiting five long years for this trip. What an incredible joy to see it finally come to pass and have my daughter come along as well. God is so faithful.
Airfare for both of us will be around $3000. The trip expenses will be around $2000, including food and ground transportation. So we are needing to see a miracle of $5000. On top of our trip costs, we are believing the Lord for a love offering to bless Home of the Open Heart as well.
“In order to raise the funds for my Mom and I {Chelsey} to make this trip, I will be running the Galveston Marathon– the full 26.2 miles! This is my first marathon and I am dedicating my efforts and any funds raised to the Lord for this mission trip. Those of you who would like to help us with funding our trip may donate any amount per mile that I run on the race. The event is this Sunday, February 16th 2014.”
